The day the wheels disappeared, eight stories

These eight car owners have two things in common. Someone stole their tires and rims. Now they have acquired Rimgard.

Roger. VW Tiguan.

It was a night between Sunday and Monday in April. I woke up and looked out, maybe I felt something was going on. Then I see that my carport is fully lit, there are a lot of people standing there. Takes nothing at first, but rushes down three flights of stairs, just in time to see the taillights of a car pulling away. Left in the carport is the car with the alarm screeching, propped up on two leca blocks.

Now the hard part began. Get a tow truck, insurance company, inspect the car, pay for new aluminum rims and tires. A theft like this brings with it so much crap afterwards, and it cost a couple of thousand despite the insurance...

The rescuer said that it appeared to be a group that was on a "tour" in northern Stockholm. They had fixed the lock nuts in no time, they took them with them just in case.

When I got new tires I started thinking, someone must have come up with a better solution. That's when I found Rimgard. Since then, no one has touched the car. It's pretty too!

Philip. Volvo XC60.

One April morning when I came out of the apartment in Danderyd, the car was certainly there. But the tires and rims were gone. The alarm had gone off without me waking up. Apparently those who took the wheels had not paid attention to the alarm.

I have a company car, so the cost was only the excess, but all the "meck" around, tow truck, ordering and waiting for rims, workshop visits. It was hard. I had heard of Rimgard, as I know a little about the car industry, and wanted to get the company car equipped with it, but it didn't work out.

Shortly after midsummer it happened again. The new rims were picked up one morning. Then I ordered Rimgard with my own money. Since then I have been allowed to keep the wheels.

Jimmy. VW Tiguan

This was at the end of July. Normally I park in the garage, but I knew that the next day, I would have to leave quickly, as I had an early train. So I parked in the public parking lot that is on top of the garage. The next morning, of course, I didn't get off as I should have. I found my car carelessly propped up on some pieces of wood. When the tow truck came, he couldn't drive up to the parking lot, so the car had to sit there until I came back a week later. Then it took four weeks at the workshop because the car had several sheet metal damages on the sides and doors.

It turned out to be an expensive story, for me it was close to SEK 10,000 with excess and rental car.
The insurance company's bill was SEK 89,000. So the loss of those four wheels cost SEK 100,000 in the end. Another ten cars in the municipality had lost their wheels that week, so you just have to count what the bill ended up being for car owners and insurance companies. It's not petty theft then.
Now I have acquired Rimgard, which will soon be on the car.

Amar Audi S3.

I live on Kvarnholmen in Nacka and there we have had a lot of problems with car break-ins. One morning last spring, I read on the app our neighbors have in common, that the garage had been broken into again. I ran down and checked, all the wheels were still there, however, several other cars had lost car parts and wheels.
Moments later I discovered that two bolts were missing from one of the tires! Probably the thieves had been interrupted. It could have ended very badly if I hadn't discovered it in time.
I had looked at Rimgard before, but now I decided to give it a shot. As there was no standard solution for my Audi, we had to try our hand together with Rimgard and there was a rim lock that worked.
I barely had time to get my Rimgards on before the garage was broken into again. When I checked my car, a little more properly this time, I saw two small scratch marks on one of the rims. They had tried to get at my car again, but failed and gave up!
Now I will equip the other cars in the household with Rimgard. The lock is really secure. It's also cosmetically nice and blends in with the rim design.

Nicholas. VW Tiguan.

We have a shared car park here in Täby and in that car park I have lost the wheels on two occasions.
The first time was in May. After that, I increased the security with a better alarm and level sensor, so that it would not be possible to lift or move the car.
It didn't help. By June, the new wheels were gone. The thieves did not care at all that it was an alarm.
I was so pissed off, so angry that I was close to moving. It wasn't just the theft, but all the hassle and costs afterwards.
One of the neighbors had put on a rim lock that I hadn't seen before, I checked it out and it was Rimgard. At the end of June, similar locks were on my rims.
There have been several attacks since then, I've seen, but no one has touched mine or my neighbor's VW Passat since the Rimgard lock went on.

Jonas. Audi Q7.

It was midsummer weekend and on Thursday I had parked the car down in the harbor to go out with the boat. When we returned on Midsummer's Eve, we were not immediately greeted by any festive atmosphere.

A udin was propped up on some kind of slabs of hard rubber, according to the salvager, they are the kind you have in road construction to set up dividers. The car was not completely upright. It would later prove costly.
Admittedly, the insurance company paid for theft and damage, I had to bear the deductible. But the four wheels ended up costing SEK 149,740. There was a number of paint damage, probably caused by the tools they had with them when they ran around the car. The brake discs that lay directly against the ground had to be replaced. Then the workshop discovered that the rear drive joint had cracked as a result of the "treatment".
It took two months to get the car back in order. The only thing that was lucky was that it was summer so we got by with a car, it was impossible to get a rental car this year when everyone was on vacation...
I realized that the lock nuts I had were not much protection. So when I started looking for something new, I found Rimgard. There were also Audi rims that the lock fitted. Locks and rims are now on the car. And next summer I can park safely in the harbor, even if the thefts continue, because we've seen them do that.

Jonas. Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

I have not been subject to any car theft or damage in the last 20 years. Therefore, you may have been lulled into a false sense of security. Because last summer, the first week of vacation, the neighbor knocked on the door. We live in Bromma in a relatively newly built area. During the night my car had been visited, the tires were gone and the car was on some wooden blocks.

Luckily, the tire company, where I have the winter tires, was not closed for the holidays. They were there an hour later and put my studless winter tires on. Then there was a bit of tinkering with the insurance company and with Mercedes. Three weeks later, the new tires and rims were in place.
So it was quite smooth. However, both my wife and I felt increased anxiety after the theft, we reacted to unexpected sounds and our surroundings felt less safe.
I started looking for rim locks and there was Rimgard. Via their chat service I found locks that fit my rims. When I change cars in a year I can move them to the new rims, that's good. What is really good is that the neighborhoods feel safe again.

Kenneth. Porsche Macan.

In November last year, it was a Monday morning when I arrived at my parking lot in Solna and was greeted by the car parked on rubber pads. Not a scratch on the car, the bolts were neatly placed by the wheel arches.
There were rims for SEK 100,000 and a deductible of SEK 5,000 - 6,000.
I hadn't had time to get the winter tires on, so the tow truck took the road past the tire hotel.
One wonders how they found me? I had been to a hockey game on Sunday, had they seen me there and followed me, or had they scanned parking lot after parking lot?
Then you wonder where the wheels go. It is, after all, a gigantic criminal market that we are forced to become part of, due to the inadequate rim locks that exist. It's just a matter of going here and filling up the warehouse when they've sold the wheels on.
But they can forget about my rims the next time it's time to fill up the wheel bearing, because now Rimgard will be on the rims.
